BANDWIDTH: Point Grey will use high resolution, high frame rate Grasshoppers and the unique FirePRO™ dual-bus 1394b PCI Express card to demonstrate how dual-bus FireWire technology can be used to achieve high 160 MB/s data rates.

CABLE LENGTH: The ground-breaking new FirePRO LDR (Long Distance Repeater) will be shown sending 1394b data at 800 Mb/s over 100 meters of standard Cat5e cable. It uses a Gigabit Ethernet physical layer to convert FireWire data to GigE signalling, allowing users to construct a reliable, high-speed network of FireWire cameras that is located up to 100 m from the host system.

CROSS PLATFORM: This demo will showcase FlyCapture SDK version 2.0, which provides support for application development using the FlyCapture API under both Windows and Linux, and the Firefly MV, which can be purchased with either a 1394 or USB 2.0 interface. A pair of identical systems (PC’s, cameras etc.) will be running, one with Windows and one with Linux. Each system will have both a 1394 and USB Firefly MV.

VALUE: Selecting the right interface at the start can save a significant amount time, resources and money, both during initial application development and for future projects. Point Grey will show how a complete imaging solution, including PC, cables, optics, cameras and software, can be constructed for less than USD $1000 using the Chameleon™ 1.3 MP CCD USB 2.0 camera and the upcoming FlyCapture 2.0 SDK.
