360° inspection of beer kegs using Flea cameras
Aptura Machine Vision Solutions developed an inspection system to provide full 360 degree inspection of beer keg labels by performing eight checks of the label and tap at the end of the bottling line. The system uses five Point Grey Flea FireWire cameras, feeding a powerful quad-core PC running OmniView Cylindrical Product Inspection software from Cognex to unwrap the round mini-kegs, eliminate parallax, flatten the 3-D object into a spatially correct 2-D image, and check each mini-keg for multiple defects.

Photonics West is the world’s leading photonics, laser, and biomedical optics show, taking place from January 25-27, 2011 in San Francisco. Point Grey will be showcasing some of its latest camera products such as the world’s smallest Flea3 USB 3.0 camera, the Grasshopper Express featuring a Sony ICX674 CCD sensor, and the Grasshopper2 FireWire camera featuring the Sony ICX285 sensor.

Successful Exhibitions in Japan
Point Grey exhibited at SEMICON Japan in Chiba (Dec 1-3) and ITE in Yokohama with our Japanese distributor ViewPLUS (Dec 8-10). Both shows drew a growing number of visitors looking for the latest image processing technology.
Point Grey showcased some of the world’s smallest and fastest cameras, including the upcoming USB 3.0 Flea3 model measuring only 29 x 29 x 30 mm, the Camera Link Gazelle measuring only 44 x 29 x 58 m, the GigE Grasshopper2 featuring the 2MP Sony ICX274 CCD at 30 FPS, and the highly sensitive 5MP Sony ICX625 capable of running at 15FPS.
