Long-Range Autonomous Navigation Using a Bumblebee XB3 Stereo Camera
The Autonomous Space Robotics Lab at the University of Toronto developed a technique to enable long-range autonomous navigation using a Bumblebee XB3 stereo camera as the only set of sensors. Using this technique, a rover can autonomously traverse a multi-kilometer route in unstructured, three-dimensional terrain, without an accurate global reconstruction.
The research project, led by Paul Furgale and Tim Barfoot, won the Kuka Service Robotics Best Paper Award at the 2010 IEEE Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA 2010).
