A 3-D vision-guided robotic system, developed by system integrator Neovision, used Point Grey FireWire cameras to precisely place front ends during the assembly line of Skoda automobiles such as the new Superb model and the Yeti SUV line. The robotic system FrontEnd is based on a 360 robotic arm, guided by a combination of contact and noncontact sensors and two Point Grey 2MP CCD cameras with laser line illumination. Read more...

Bumblebee2 and Dragonfly2 Camera Used for Snackbot Mobile Robot
Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh are conducting studies on how humans interact with a real robot platform. Snackbot is a social mobile robot designed to deliver snacks to the people around the university campus. It uses a Bumblebee2 stereo camera mounted in the head which generates disparity data, providing the distance from the camera to each point in space. A Dragonfly2 camera with a wide angle 190 degree field of view lens is also mounted in the top of the head to provide peripheral vision. Read more...

Real-Time 3D Part Alignment Demo Unveiled at The Vision Show
Point Grey, a world leader in the development of advanced digital camera systems, and Cognex® Corporation, a leading machine vision software supplier, jointly unveiled a live 3D part alignment demonstration at The Vision Show earlier this week. The demonstration shows how images provided by Point Grey's Bumblebee XB3 camera are processed by Cognex's 3D-Locate software to deliver accurate, real-time, three-dimensional positional information.
