The Sync Unit synchronizes the image acquisition of multiple Point Grey cameras on different IEEE-1394 buses, either within the same computer or across multiple computers. Without a Sync Unit, there is no timing correlation between separate cameras on separate buses.
Achieve greater bandwidth by connecting Sync Units in
parallel
Connect a virtually unlimited number of synchronized cameras
while preserving the frame rate
Periodically updates to compensate for any disparity between
the source and the destination
Plug-and-Play
Physical Configuration
When only 2 buses are being synchronized, only
one Sync Unit is required. Otherwise, the number of Sync
Units required is equal to the number of IEEE-1394 buses
being synchronized.
Each side of the unit corresponds to one bus.
In order to use multiple Sync Units together (to increase
the bandwidth), the Sync Units must be connected to each
other to create an independent bus as shown in Knowledge Base Article 112. This bus will be the source for synchronizing the
timing.
The LEDs on the Sync Unit flash to communicate different
messages to the user, as described in Knowledge Base Article 165.

Recommended System Configuration
The Sync Unit is not a generic IEEE-1394 camera
synchronization device. It has been designed to
work specifically with Point Grey IEEE-1394 cameras.
