October 2, 2000 - “This camera fills a void that currently exists in the digital camera market”, said Rod Barman, President of Point Grey Research. “We hope to accelerate the integration of digital cameras into new and existing computer and machine vision systems”.
The Firefly is a 2” x 2” board level camera that meets the digital video camera standard v1.04. It was designed around Sony’s 1/3” HAD 640x480 progressive scan CCD. As part of a development kit, it is packaged with an IEEE-1394 PCI interface card, cable, Firefly driver software and an image grabbing library. The image grab library allows users to easily select and access images from any camera on the IEEE-1394 bus.
