August 23, 2006 - Reflecting Point Grey’s goal of continual innovation in stereo camera technology, Vlad Tucakov, Director of Point Grey Research commented “We re-designed our Bumblebee stereo camera to include a second generation calibration retention system for improved resilience. We also added on-board color processing and GPIO connectors for external trigger and strobe functionality." Customers will benefit from these enhancements at the same price as the original Bumblebee camera.
As a binocular camera, the Bumblebee2 contains two 1/3" progressive scan CCD sensors, and transmits both the left and right images to a PC via an IEEE-1394 interface. All Point Grey Research stereo products include the Digiclops® and TriclopsTM SDK (software development kit) enabling users to control camera settings, adjust image quality and access real-time depth range images using stereo vision technology. Extensive example programs and source code are also included for ease of integration. Don Murray, Director at Point Grey Research summarizes "Based on customer input and years of development experience and expertise, our stereo cameras are chosen for their functionality and flexibility for use in mobile robotics, people tracking, entertainment, and a wide range of other applications. Customers have come to rely on the 3D performance and accuracy of the Bumblebee camera systems."
The Bumblebee2 camera is available in color or monochrome as a 640x480 at 48 FPS or a 1024x768 at 18 FPS option, and offers a choice of 3.8 or 6.0 mm focal length lens.
